Principal – Vera Auerbach
Vera Auerbach trained as a Psychologist at the University of NSW, majoring in Psychology and Philosophy (BA – Psych) and Sydney (MA – Psych). She completed her clinical training at Wollongong University (M Clin. Psych) with a special interest in mother-baby issues. Vera also completed a two-year counselling training with the Institute of Counselling, and a two-year Family Therapy Diploma. Vera has been an accredited Supervisor for Intern Psychologists with the NSW Registration Board since July 2006.
Her main focus concerns diagnostic and clinical issues. She specialises in working with children under 5 years of age, and adults wanting psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
Vera is happy to see individuals (children, adolescents and adults), couples or families. Vera facilitates long-term psychotherapy and mothers groups.

Background/Specialties:
Vera has a number of specialty areas, most recently attachment issues. She trained in the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) and the Ainsworth Strange Situation Procedure (SSP). This followed her work in the area of Postnatal Depression and reproductive issues concerning women in general (e.g. IVF, Endometriosis, infertility and miscarriages).
Vera has worked in Adult Psychiatry as a Clinical Psychologist since 1990. She also worked at Westmead Hospital part-time as Clinical Psychologist on the Early Intervention team, part of the Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatry Department (Redbank House). Referrals for attachment issues, settling, and crying are most welcome, as are separation difficulties, ADHD or oppositional behaviour.
Vera has expertise in working with children and adolescents in a number of frameworks. At Redbank House she worked with children under 5 years of age and their parents specialising in treating cases of non-organic failure to thrive, sleep/feeding problems and behavioural/compliance problems in infants and toddlers.
Vera also offers psychoanalytic play therapy to children, as well as parent-infant psychotherapy. She has worked as a child sexual assault counsellor in the past and considers herself a specialist in this area, as well as working with adult survivors of Child Sexual Abuse. Vera specialises in providing long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy services when appropriate, as this service is no longer provided in the public health sector.
Vera was involved in the setting up the Group Analytic Society (Sydney), and was President from 1998 – 2000. More recently she became involved with the Parent Infant Foundation of Australia, 2001-2003.
Vera has always tried to promote health care for all and remains committed to providing the best possible standard of care at reasonable rates. Her fees are negotiable for this reason.

Michael Guy
BSc MA MClinPsyc DipCH MAPS
Michael is a psychologist with over 12 years of professional experience. His background includes training in psychology, clinical psychology and hypnotherapy. Michael has expertise in the assessment and treatment of issues associated with life adjustment problems, depressed mood, anxiety, personality issues, trauma, dependency, and grief. As a therapist, Michael works by integrating ideas from different psychotherapy schools using the Schema Therapy model to provide a cohesive framework for his clients. Formerly, Michael has worked as a psychologist within the prison system where he helped people learn new skills to challenge unhelpful thinking and behaviours. Michael has had the opportunity to assist a large number of people seeking help with a wide variety of issues including those recovering from drug and alcohol addictions, as well as those affected by major life crises such as HIV. Michael looks for patterns in client’s lives particularly sabotaging or unskilful behaviours and he enjoys working with his clients to confront these issues in a supportive and caring manner. Michael will work with you to provide strategies to change these negative patterns so that your potential can be realised and your quality of life improved. Michael is registered with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
Salvatore Sorbello
Salvatore Sorbello is a registered Psychologist working at Gymea Lily Psychotherapy Centre. Salvatore worked as an English and Drama teacher for many years in Sydney high schools before retraining as a psychologist at Charles Sturt University (Graduate Diploma in Psychology) and at the University of Western Sydney (Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology) in 2003. As well as qualifications in psychology, Salvatore has a Graduate Diploma in Philosophy and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Philosophy from Macquarie University. He as a special interest in Existential philosophy. Salvatore completed his two year registration programme whilst working as a school counsellor. He has extensive experience working with children and their families. Salvatore has completed additional professional development courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapies, and the Triple P parenting program. He is an advocate of a positive psychology approach that recognizes and builds on a client’s competencies, resources, and strengths. Salvatore provides individual counselling to children, adolescents, and adult clients.
Jackie Joukhador
Jackie is a clinical psychologist with more than 9 years of experience in psychology. She has a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Charles Sturt University and a Master of Arts in psychology from the University of Sydney. She has published a number of papers in academic journals. Her clinical experience is mainly with adults and adolescents. Primarily her experience has been in mental health settings where clients presented with complex anxiety and depression problems. She has also worked with problem gamblers in both a research and clinical setting. She is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy trained but has also attended training in other forms of treatment such as ACT and IPT.

Myrna Powell

Myrna Powell has been working as a psychotherapist in private practice for 17 years. She has had extensive training and experience in working with adult individuals and couples in psychodynamic psychotherapy. She specialises in Couples Therapy. Myrna’s approach to Couples Therapy brings together intra-psychic processes as well as inter-personal processes with a consideration as to how these are influenced by the unconscious mind. She is interested in exploring current issues within the couple and their connection to unresolved conflicts from the family of origin and how these are played out in the relationship. Myrna provides a supportive place for couples where old patterns can be explored so that new meanings can be found. Couples Therapy provides the opportunity for each member of the couple to grow and evolve in ways which may not have been possible earlier.
